Collectibles of Tomorrow!

So many things become collectible so fast that it's kind of hard to pin point what the new hip thing is going to be.  Well I'll let you in on a secret.  From watching trailers from some of the most anticipated movies coming out in the next year or two I have an answer.

                                  KAIJU! (giant monsters)

I know what you're thinking, "But Harley, aren't kaiju already popular?"

Yes indeed they are, especially our big green pal Godzilla, but kaiju films, toys, books, ect. are more of an esoteric genre than superheroes or vampires.  If you ask a random person on the sidewalk what a kaiju is, they would just stare blankly into the distance waiting for you to leave.

That's right kiddies KAIJU are coming to the mainstream thanks to our pal Guillermo Del Toro.  He is directing a neat little film called Pacific Rim.  The film is about giant robots vs. KAIJU!  This movie is going to make KAIJU a household name in the United States.

Oh man I can't wait for this movie.  It's something that I've been waiting for since I was 5 and I watched my first Godzilla film.  After this movie sky rockets KAIJU into the mainstream, we only have a year to wait until we get a Hollywood reboot of The King of Monsters Godzilla.  KAIJU are going to be all over the airwaves and all over the book scene.  We will get even better toys than what we're getting now.  I for one can't wait!

So go and grab up all the KAIJU collectibles you can right now while they are cheap, because the price will skyrocket come this summer after Pacific Rim punches you in the face and unleashes your love for KAIJU!

I love everything KAIJU and I hope you do too.

Here are what some other people around the league had to say about collectibles of tomorrow.

League assignment Pirates!

Well it's been a long damn time since I've posted for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers and I've missed it.  I welcomed the newest member of my family into this world a few months ago and it's been blast, but time consuming.  Now she's a little older and sleeps through the nights so but this seemed like a good time to jump back in.  So lets get started!

                                                                  PIRATES!

The first thing that comes to mind when I say the word pirate is those god awfully Johnny Depp movies that almost ruined Pirates for me.  Thankfully there is another pirate floating around this world that is so bad ass that he trumps everything else pirate related.  Sadly though he doesn't get much love.  He is a lower tier character belonging to criminal organization filled with incredibly evil and awesome characters.  The pirate I am talking about is the one and only

                                                             ZANZIBAR!

I love his Air Skiff you know he's killed a Joe or two with that thing.  He's probably Cutter's worst nightmare.

Here he is on the cover of UK's Action Force firing on the Dreadknok's Thunder Machine.  It looks like it has been commandeered by the Joes Outback and Psyche Out.  He is not only the menace of the seas but the menace of the Outback as well. Just look at that terrified kangaroo.

No other pirate comes close to his bad assery!

Godzilla's Revenge

Godzilla's Revenge is one of the most hated and detested films in the series.  The film was aimed towards a younger audience and it shows.  It stars a young boy named Ichiro who is tormented by bullies.  He is in a constant state of day dream where he imagines himself in the fantastic land of Monster Island.  Monster Island is the home of the King of The Monsters, Godzilla, and his son Minilla.  Being the son of Godzilla one might think that Minilla would be a bad ass, but instead he's a wimp who gets harassed by the bigger monster  Gabbera.  Of course Ichiro and Minilla become fast friends and try to help each other overcome their problems.

Minilla receives pointers on being a bad ass from his father.  While trying to perform his radiation breath he can only blow smoke rings until his father steps on his tail causing him to unleash the full force of his radiation breath.  With the help of his father and Ichiro Minilla is finally able to defeat his bully Gabbera.

Ichiro takes what he's learned on Monster Island to the mean streets of Tokyo where he overcomes his problems, and defeats his bully as well.  Just like Minilla he earns the respect of his peers and the movie ends with Ichiro going on to become their leader and then proceeds to harass a man painting a sign, what a bad ass!

Yes this movie is aimed for little kids, but I love it.  I guess I'm just biased because I love anything Godzilla.  His roar is actually my ringtone. My favorite part of the film is when Ichiro returns to monster island and sees his chum.  He walks over and asks
 "Hi Minilla what ya doin?"
"Oh nothin just being lonely because I don't have any friends."  Now my second favorite line from a Godzilla film.

I almost fell off the couch laughing.  This movie has quite a few monster fights as well.  Including Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster Eberah the giant lobster!

IF you want a fun Godzilla film to watch this is one of the best.  Watch the full film on Netflix.
